La celebración que había sido agendada en enero y pospuesta por la variante del COVID-19, finalmente se llevó a cabo el domingo 3 de abril en el MGM Grand Arena de Las Vegas significando grandes victorias para Olivia Rodrigo, Jon Batiste, Silk Sonic, entre otros.
Los primeros ganadores se presentaron en la transmisión previa a la televisiva, a través de la web de los Grammys y su canal oficial de YouTube, en la que Kanye West triunfó como Mejor Interpretación de Rap Melódico y Mejor Canción de Rap por Hurricane y Jail, respectivamente, Tyler, The Creator como Mejor Álbum de Rap por Call Me If You Get Lost, y Olivia Rodrigo como Mejor Interpretación Solista de Pop en Drivers License. Entre estos también destacaron talentos latinos como Juanes, al llevarse el premio al Mejor Álbum de Rock Latino con Origen y el puertorriqueño Bad Bunny, cuyo álbum El Último Tour del Mundo fue reconocido como el Mejor Álbum de Música Urbana.
A las 8pm, hora este, empezó la ceremonia principal en la que se entregaron los reconocimientos a las categorías más esperadas de la noche como el Disco del Año, Canción del Año, Álbum del Año y Mejor Artista Revelación, en las cuales había una carrera de artistas con más nominaciones en la que Jon Batiste lideraba con 11 de ellas, seguido por Justin Bieber con ocho, y Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo y Doja Cat estaban cabeza a cabeza con siete nominaciones cada una.
El público presenció participaciones en vivo de BTS con su éxito del momento, Butter, Lil Nas X y Jack Harlow compartiendo escenario para interpretar Industry Baby, Lady Gaga rindiendo homenaje a Bennett, el dúo de hermanos Eilish interpretando Happier Than Ever, entre otros. Como era de esperarse tras la reciente noticia del fallecimiento de Taylor Hawkins, tanto la Academia como otros artistas, lo tuvieron presente en el desarrollo de la gala con un video el cual condujo al segmento In Memoriam, realizado por Ben Platt, Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr. y Rachel Zegler que también destacaba a otras grandes pérdidas en la industria en el último año como Charlie Watts de The Rolling Stones y Vicente Fernández.
